Ghost Hunters International Fortress of Fear Rasnov Citadel
When the show starts the Robb Deremast and GHI team is in the van heading to Rasnov, and namely the Rasnov Citadel. Barry Fitzgerald recants the story about Vlad the Impaler and the original inspiration for Dracula. This citadel was to believed to be the homestead of Vlad.
On the way up the hill to the citadel it is snowing, and snowing so heavily their vans get stuck in the thick snow.. Now I understand how stoked I would be about investigating a great Citadel, but at that point I would at least state that anything found outside in the weather condition such as it was would be worthless as contaminated evidence.
After a long intro to the place we learn that there is a monk that prays to a cross outside, shadows seen in places, a place dogs won’t cross, and some strange noises abound. They setup and break into the investigation.
One of the first tests they did was with a dog, they took the dog to the door/gate of the citadel. Now I’m not sure of the dog’s relationship with anyone on the GHI team but I do know how dog’s behave. One person walked through the door, the camera men, Donna and everyone else stood outside. Dogs obey pack behavior in the absence of a dominant, so if there wasn’t an owner or other dominant dog going in by it self the dog will stay outside with the humans of the pack. I like that they are experimenting with the idea, but dog behavior as scientific evidence are indeterminable tools with out any amount of certainty.
Later in the show there is a well that has some bones found in it. It rumored that the slaves who dug the well were murdered at the bottom. Buckaroo Brian to the rescue. He is totally stoked to repel down the well. I must say I thought that was way cool of him to do. I don’t know many investigators that would be down for that.
When he was down there he reported a cold breeze and he looked around to try and explain it, and rightfully came to the conclusion there is no way. He also found some bones down there as well. No other supportive evidence. I have a call out to a friend of mine though about the cold breeze. Geothermal changes etc.
Next we have Donna and Shannon doing an EVP session together. Now it wasn’t clear to me what entirely went down. What it seemed though that Donna was trying to ex cert her authority as an expert in the field and try and put Shannon in her place. They argued over the proper way to do an EVP session. I can understand both of their arguments. Shannon couldn’t say she was part of the original Ghost Hunters and Donna could. Shannon however felt that she was being treated by Donna as less of investigator because of it. I don’t like Donna, she seems to be taking this holier than thou road but it could just be the way Sci fi cut the show.
After there Robb decides to split up the team in to different groups and send them out. Always a good idea.
Barry and Shannon go off to the this watch tower and Barry started acting sorta strange. Asking Shannon to sit their in the dark while he walks down the stairs. Barry then talks about how “he is not afraid of the dark, he is afraid of what in the dark”. I’m glad that he admits that but then he peers through a crack in a door freaks out somehow leaving his glove running up the stairs in the dark.
I hate to point out the obvious here but we is talking about being scared, meaning he was scared, then he starts seeing things. Not to say he didn’t, just that it’s likely he just spooked himself out as usual. It was funny to note when he ran to Shannon, Barry was like I have to “Think, Think Think” and Shannon was like no “Speak, Speak, Speak”. I’ve been there, in that time you general should try and stay calm, and sometimes speaking is good but most the team that just spreads the hysteria.
Barry and Shannon go tell Robb, and Robb makes a great statement. He basically says something to the affect of “I know Barry easily spooks, but the only way I can help him is by indulging him and trying to show him there is other explanations”. Those aren’t his exact words but that is my impressions.
Donna also goes back over there and shes says strange things. Like she is being protective of Barry from I guess spirits and the spirits make her angry?? I have no idea were Donna’s reality lives, she just tried to push how to “Properly” do an EVP session on Shannon to talking about taking spirits outside for a whooping if they mess with Barry! I just have a feeling we have the beginnings of TV Big Head syndrome.
Donna and Robb both do their best to try and investigate this thing Barry saw. So much so that they were scaling a wall in the snow on the outside to get to it. Robb felt it was unsafe at that point and called it off. I guess no one can say they don’t go the extra mile now.
So they wrap up the investigation then move on to the Research
Results (Has paranormal activity)
1 Class B* Evp to a improper phrased question in Romanian “Bine”
1 Class C* Evp to a three plow of languages in a scramble “Poftim”
* Classes were given 1 class upgrade because the Romanian Owner was able to easily pick out the EVPs in a different language, and I have a Biast toward English.
Analysis
Barry finds an evp that turns out to be just Brian.
Then he finds what sounds to me be scrambled noises that there is a word “Poftim” in. Which I guess means like the English “Pardon”. This was found after Barry repeated in three different languages some brambling of questions. I can’t say much because I couldn’t hear it well and it’s not my native tongue, but the owner of the establishment pointed it out on his own.
There is also a very similar but more easier to make out Romainian word “Bine” which was an answer to a question that wasn’t asked, How are you, “Bine” which means fine.
We get to see Andy via webcam with his new baby at the end of the show before the reveal. Andy looks quiet tired and looks like it has been a drain on him.
Reveal
I found this reveal to be actually fairly interesting. The owner was able to pick out without any coaxing the words in the EVPs. However after being told all the evidence he was skill skeptical.
Robb Demarest did an interesting thing. He was talking about whether the places was haunted or not. He asked the owner, and the owner said he felt there wasn’t much to be said. I think Robb expected a different answer because he petal over the owner’s answer saying something absurd like skeptics “want every board unturned…” etc. He also states, with a sort of passion that personal experiences count, because “I was there and I saw” kind of attitude. But then comes all the way back around and never states whether or not the place is haunted by labels it as having paranormal activity.
I feel this show is trying really hard to be something that it wasn’t meant to be. It seems that the GHI team has alot of heart and does alot of good but I think they are trying to be too much and make it work too hard and it’s just coming off as a bit lacking as I feared a spinoff series would be. I will continue to watch it but I just won’t be expecting anything along the lines of evidence and be looking at it more for the fiction part of SciFi.
